RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State will begin its 33rd season of volleyball this Friday, Aug. 24, when the Wolfpack starts play at the North Carolina Central Tournament in Durham, N.C. In all, State will play four times across the two-day spread. The Pack will get things started against South Carolina State at 11 a.m. on Friday morning, later taking on host North Carolina Central at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Aug. 25, the team will battle Campbell at 9 a.m., before facing Loyola at 1 p.m.
Second-year head coach Charita J. Stubbs is anxious to get back on the court.
"I am excited for the ladies to get out and show all that we've worked on," said Stubbs. "Everything that we do will be a complete team effort, and that is a great feeling"
State knocked off South Carolina State, 3-0, in the only meeting between the two programs at the NC State Wolfpack Classic in 2005. Coincidentally enough, that was also the last time the Pack faced Campbell, grabbing a 3-0 decision. NC State is 7-2 all-time against the Camels.
The Wolfpack's match against North Carolina Central will be only the second meeting of the two squads. The Pack topped the Eagles 2-0 back in 1975, the first year of State's program. Loyola downed the Wolfpack 3-1 in the only previous meeting back in 1994.
The 2007 State unit features eight returning letterwinners from a season ago, as well as 10 highly touted freshmen. Assistant coach Kasey Harwell joined the program on July 19, rounding out the coaching staff.
Following this weekend's action, NC State will return to play next weekend, Friday, Aug. 31 through Saturday, Sept. 1, in Gainesville, Fla., at the University of Florida Tournament. The Wolfpack will take on Santa Clara, host Florida and Georgia Southern throughout the two-day event.
