RALEIGH, N.C. - Head coach Charita J. Stubbs and the entire NC State volleyball program is encouraging all Wolfpack fans to come and watch the team begin its year with a two hour scrimmage this Friday, Aug. 17, at historic Reynolds Coliseum on the NC State campus. Admission is free and action will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
"Practice is going very well," said Stubbs. "We're excited to see the number of bodies that we have that are able to contribute for us. We'd like to have as many Wolfpack fans as possible come out and watch us compete in an intra-squad scrimmage before our season begins next week."
Stubbs will personally introduce all 18 players to the crowd in addition to the competition. The roster, split into two teams, will compete in four games. The first two will feature 6:2 rotations, while the last two will feature 5:1 rotations. The first three games will be played to 30, while the final contest will be played to 15, just like a regular season event.
The Red Team will feature Jana Angel, Lindsay Benac, Allison Davis, Megan Rehmer, Alexandra Smith, Amber Spolarich, Nicole Sweet, Ashley Wallace, Janay Yancey and Lauren Zaniboni.
Andrea Bentley, Keri DeMar, Carlee Fowler, Nicole Huber, Aiwane Iboaya, Taylor Pritchard, Kasey Rhyne and Chrissy Zirpolo will combine to form the White Team.
"Our level of volleyball has really improved from last season, and we look forward to continuing to grow and improve," said Stubbs. "The volleyball I.Q. of this team has grown tremendously."
The 2007 State unit features eight returning letterwinners from a season ago, as well as 10 highly touted freshmen. Friday's scrimmage will also mark the debut of new assistant coach Kasey Harwell.
Stubbs and company will kick-start the season at the North Carolina Central Tournament in Durham, N.C., Aug. 24-25. The Pack will compete in four matches across the two-day field.
