Stubbs Announces Team Captains for Volleyball

RALEIGH, N.C. - Allison Davis and Lindsay Benac have been tabbed as the captains of the 2007 NC State volleyball squad, as announced by head coach Charita J. Stubbs on Tuesday, Aug. 17. Davis, a sophomore setter, and Benac, a freshman libero, will stand as the go-to team leaders during Stubbs' second year at the helm of the Wolfpack program.
Davis, a native of Cape Coral, Fla., served as the No. 1 setter on the team a season ago, playing in all 31 matches and starting in 29. She led the team with 905 assists, 820 more than anyone else on the roster, while averaging 9.14 assists per game and drilling 68 kills. Her .223 attack percentage ranked second on the team and she tied for second-most service aces on the roster with 24. Davis was named to the 2006 All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team and was also elected as an NC State / Caterpillar Scholar Athlete.
Hailing from Long Beach, Calif., Benac earned four letters in volleyball at Huntington Beach High School and served as a captain for two years. She competed with the North Orange Country All-Stars in 2007 and was named all-conference three times, twice to the second-team and once to the first-team. Benac gained club experience with the Cal Jrs. under head coach Melissa Ohta and collected a gold medal with her club squad at the 2005 Junior Nationals.
NC State will kick-start the season at the North Carolina Central Tournament in Durham, N.C., Aug. 24-25. State will compete in four matches across the two-day field.

In addition to announcing the team captains, coach Stubbs also announced that the Pack's match against Georgia Southern on Saturday, Sept. 1 has been moved from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The match will take place in Gainesville, Fla., as a part of the University of Florida Tournament.
