STANLEY, N.C. - Kristen Vincent took medalist honors in the stroke play qualifying round of the 10th Carolinas Women's Match Play Championship hosted by Cowans Ford Country Club in Stanley, N.C.
A rising sophomore on the NC State women’s golf team, Vincent fired a two-under 70 to tie the all-time low-scoring record for the tournament. The Burlington, N.C., native was cruising at four-under for her round, but bogeys on No. 16 and 17 made it a narrow one-stroke victory in the qualifying round.
Fellow Wolfpack teammates Joanna Saleeby and Cindel Gwyn also qualified for the Round of 16 in the Championship Flight.
Saleeby, a Raleigh native, shot a six-over 78, while Gwyn, who hails from Calabash, N.C., fired a 79. Saleeby earned the No. 12 seed, while Gwyn will enter Wednesday’s action as the No. 15 seed.
On Wednesday, Vincent went out and earned a 5 and 4 victory over No. 16-seed Mary Kate Bowman in the first round of match play.
Results for Saleeby and Gwyn were not available as of 11:30 am on Wednesday. Check back for updates
