Track Has Two Advance to Finals at NCAA Championships

Raleigh, N.C. The NC State track and field teams had two athletes advance from the prelims to the finals in the first day of action at the 2007 Outdoor NCAA Championships, being held this weekend in Sacramento, Calif. Both Julia Lucas in the 5,000 meters and Wesley Smith also in the 5,000 meters have advanced to the finals in their events.
Lucas placed sixth in the prelims of the 5,000 meters, as she finished with a time of 16:18.92. Smith took 13th on the men’s side in 13:57.58.
Two other Wolfpack athletes were in action on Wednesday, but neither advanced to the final round. Dexter Adams finished 15th in the long jump with a top mark of 24’05.75”, and Tibor Vegh finished 20th in the steeplechase with a time of 8:55.53.
In action on Thursday for NC State, Mitchell Pope will compete in the semifinals of the shot put.
