Track Advances Two More to NCAA Championships

Raleigh, N.C. The NC State track and field teams added two more qualifiers for the NCAA Championships on the second day of competition at the NCAA East Regional Championships held at University of Florida this weekend. For the second straight year, Mitchell Pope will compete on the shot put at the NCAA Championships, and also today Tibor Vegh qualified in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. The Pack had four athletes qualify over the weekend, as yesterday Dexter Adams did in the long jump, and Julia Lucas did in the 5,000 meters.
Mitchell Pope continued his strong season, and he will once again look for All-American honors at the NCAA Championships. Pope placed second today in the shot put, with a top heave of 63’10.75”.
Tibor Vegh will compete at the NCAA Championships for the first time in his career, as he finished fifth in the steeplechase with a career-best time of 8:49.10.
The Pack also had three other runners compete in the steeplechase. John Martinez placed 13th with a time of 9:00.67. Bryce Ruiz was 21st in 8:49.10, while Gavin Coombs was close behind with a time of 9:08.75 for 22nd place.
Also in the shot put, Jason Jones placed 17th with his second-best throw of the season, 56’03”. The Pack also had another individual in the jumps, as Michael Hill placed 20th with a top leap of 48’01.75”.
On the women’s side, the Pack only had one competitor. DeMiracle Washington posted a jump of 38’10.50” for 31st place.
