Track Picks Up More NCAA Regional Qualifying Marks

Raleigh, N.C. The NC State had one last weekend of competition before the NCAA Regional Championships, as the Pack competed in three different meets this weekend. NC State had an impressive showing Friday night at UNC’s Elite Meet, bringing home a total of five NCAA Regional qualifying marks.
The men’s team notched one, with Mitchell Pope winning the shot put with a top heave of 65’00.75”, his ninth NCAA Regional mark of the outdoor season. Also in the shot put, Jason Jones was fourth (53’10.50”). In the hammer, Chris Crawford was third with a toss of 178’01”.
NC State just missed another NCAA Regional time in the 1,5000 meters. Tibor Vegh won his second race of the season in 3:47.85, less than a second away from a NCAA Regional time. Also in the 1,500 meters, Stephen Furst was fourth (3:49.69), Gavin Coombs was fifth (3:49.79), and John Martinez was seventh (3:50.60).
Bryce Ruiz also brought home a first place finish, winning the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 9:11.84.
The men's side added another NCAA Regional qualifying mark late Saturday night. Michael Hill posted a season-best leap of 49'03.75" in the triple jump for third place, his first NCAA Regional mark of the season. Another NCAA Regional mark came on Sunday at the North Carolina Central Last Chance Meet. Jason Jones notched a season-best heave of 56'04" in the shot put for his first NCAA Regional mark of the season.
The NC State women’s team brought home a total of four NCAA Regional marks, with two in the 1,500 meters. Julia Lucas was fourth in 4:18.25, while Jemissa Hess was fifth in 4:22.56, each earning their second NCAA Regional time in the 1,500 meters this season. Georgia Davis also took sixth in that race (4:28.53).
Angelina Blackmon recorded her second NCAA Regional mark in the 800 meters this season, as she placed third in 2:08.42.
Laila Thomas picked up her first NCAA Regional mark in the high jump, with a season-best mark of 5’08.75”.
In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Kara McKenna was second in 11:06.29.
