Track & Field Travels to ACC Championships

Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State track and field squads will be traveling to College Park, Md., this weekend to compete at the 2007 Outdoor ACC Championships hosted at Maryland. Action starts on Thursday and runs through Saturday, and can be viewed on ACC Select. Live stats are available at www.flashresults.com.
The men's squad will be strong in the throws, distance, jumps and sprints, while the women's team will be looking to score points in the distance, sprints and jumps.
In action on Thursday for NC State, will be the men's hammer and javelin, women's high jump and javelin, and the 10,000 meters for both the men and the women.
The Pack has three members of the men's team currently ranked in the top-10 in the ACC in the hammer. Chris Crawford ranks third, Mitchell Pope is fifth, and Jason Jones is ninth. NC State will have three runners in the men's 10,000 meters, with Wesley Smith, Fredy Tores and Robert Bedsole.
The Pack will have three runners competing in the women's 10,000 on Thursday night. Julia Lucas will compete in that race for the first time, and Anne Wheatley earned All-ACC honors last season in that race with a third place finish and will be looking to do so again this year. Laila Thomas will look to score points in the women's high jump, she is currently tied for third in the ACC by clearing 5'07" earlier this season.
The majority of the meet will take place on Friday and Saturday. The NC State women's squad will have two competitors in the heptathlon. Laila Thomas and Kayla Lawson will each be competing in nine different events during the course of the weekend.
NC State will look for points from multi-athletes in the shot put. Pope won the championship during the indoor season, and he currently has the best mark in the ACC at 64'10". Crawford as the seventh-best throw this season, and Jason Jones is ninth. Pope also ranks fifth in the discus this season.
Dexter Adams looks to lead the way for the Pack in the jumps, hoping to duplicate his All-ACC status from the indoor season. Adams currently boasts the top mark in the ACC this outdoor season in the long jump, 24'03.75". Adams also ranks eighth in the triple jump. Mike Hill sits at fifth in the ACC in the triple jump this year, and Eric Davis is also ranked in the jumps, as he has the eight-best mark in the high jump.
Chris Kollar earned All-ACC honors last season in the 1,500 meters, and he enters this years meet with the fifth-fastest time in the ACC. Kollar will also run in the 800 meters, he currently ranks 10th in the ACC. The men's team will also have three runners in the steeplechase, as each are ranked in the top-five in the ACC, Tibor Vegh (third), John Martinez (fourth), and Bryce Ruiz (fifth). The final event for the men's team will be the 5,000 meters, as NC State has a total of six runners entered.
Kevin Hutton will look to medal in the 400 meter hurdles, he holds the top time in the ACC this season in that event, 51.18. In the sprints on the men's side, Reggie Reese has been the top performer this season for NC State. Reese holds the ninth-best mark in the 100 meters (10.5) and the eight-fastest time in the 200 meters (21.4).

Kristina Roth earned All-ACC honors in the event last year, and currently ranks fifth in the ACC this season. Freshman Kara McKenna will also be running, she has the eighth-best mark. The women's squad will also have six runners in the 5,000 meters, led by the two-time defending champion Julia Lucas.

In the sprints, Joya Rodgers will be competing in both the 100 and 200 meters.
DeMiracle Washington has had an impressive first season with the Pack, as she has the fifth-best mark in the triple jump this season, good for a NCAA Regional qualifying mark.
