Raleigh, N.C. - The No. 22 NC State gymnastics team scored a 196.125 on Friday, March 9 at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh, N.C. Strong team scores on the beam and the floor lifted the Wolfpack to a second place finish overall, falling just short of No. 15 Arizona who placed first with a score of 196.150. William and Mary took third with a 189.650. James Madison was fourth with a 186.200.
NC State started the meet strong with a team score of 49.00 on vault, with every score that counted about 9.7. Junior Leigha Hancock had one of the top scores on the vault for the day, with a score of 9.875 putting her in fourth place. Freshman Taylor Seaman finished close behind Hancock, with a score of 9.825, and tied for sixth. Both sophomore Ashley Shepard and junior Heather Zolton had a 9.8, and senior Rachel Katz and junior Kelsey Lee rounded out the scoring with a 9.7 each.
The Wolfpack then moved onto the bars, and finished with a team score of 48.825. Senior Amanda Jones posted the top NC State score of 9.825 to tie for second, and Seaman was close behind with a 9.8 and took fourth. Zolton finished with a 9.775 for fifth, and Lee scored a 9.725. Freshman Lauren Deuser rounded out the scoring with a 9.7.
The Wolfpack finished with a 49.15 on the beam, led by Hancock, who scored a season high of 9.9 for first place. Lee and Seaman both finished with a score of 9.825, good to tie for second place, respectively. Jones and Zolton had strong showings, each scoring a 9.8, and tying for sixth.
NC State closed the meet with a score of 49.15 on the floor. Katz led the Pack with a 9.875, good to tie for first place. Lee was close behind, scoring a 9.85 to tie for third. Seaman finished with a 9.825, and both Shepard and Zolton scored a 9.8
The Pack will remain in town to host Pittsburgh on Friday, March 16 to close out the home season.
