RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State volleyball team found its way back to the courts this past Saturday, March 24, taking on four teams at an informal spring scrimmage at Duke University in Durham, N.C. The Pack split two games with Duke, lost two to Wake Forest, swept Gardner-Webb, and took one of two from Charlotte. Head coach Charita J. Stubbs, with one season under her belt at the helm of the program, was pleased with the effort that she saw on the court.
"In all, I saw a lot of promise from the team," said Stubbs. "The girls are buying into the system and really focusing on the things that they have been practicing."
According to Stubbs, Keri DeMer and Kasey Rhyne made the biggest impact during the scrimmage. DeMar looked like a veteran on the court, and Rhyne served as the vocal leader.
"Keri has stepped up and played amazing," said Stubbs. "She looks like the type of player that played all year long last season and she didn't play much. That says a lot about her work ethic and athleticism.
"Kasey was a phenomenal libero for us this past weekend," said Stubbs. "She looked comfortable and she was aggressive. Those are things that she has been working on, and we are going to need both of those aspects in her game."
With two dates of competition remaining on its spring slate, the Wolfpack volleyball team will compete at Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, N.C., this Saturday, March. 31. Play is scheduled to being at 9 a.m. The Pack will take on four teams; Radford at 9 a.m., East Carolina at 11:30 a.m., High Point at 3:10 p.m. and Wake Forest at 5:40 p.m.
The team will wrap up spring play next Sunday, April 8, at Georgia State in Atlanta. Ga.
