No. 22 Gymnastics Falls at No. 1 Florida

Raleigh, N.C. – The No. 22 NC State gymnastics team fell at top-ranked Florida 197.450-194.075 Friday night in Gainesville, Fla. The Wolfpack notched high scores on both vault and floor, but had to count a fall on beam. Junior Leigha Hancock once again had an impressive meet, having top-five finishes on both beam and floor. Sophomore Ashley Shepard scored well on vault, with a fourth place finish.
The Pack started on bars with a team score of 48.450. Senior Amanda Jones was the Pack’s top finisher on bars for the seventh straight meet, scoring a 9.8 for seventh place. Also on bars, junior Heather Zolton had a 9.725, and classmate Kelsey Lee posted a 9.7.
The Pack’s top team score of the day would be on vault with a 48.800. Shepard led the way for the Pack with her 9.825 for fourth place. Hancock was close behind with a 9.8 in sixth. Rounding out the scoring was freshman Taylor Seaman with a 9.75, Lee with a 9.725 and Zolton with her 9.7.
NC State would move over to floor, and score a solid 48.775. Hancock put together a 9.875 routine and finished in a tie for fourth. Seaman recorded her fourth straight floor score of at least 9.8, as she had a 9.8 for sixth place. Lee and senior Rachel Katz each finished with a 9.725.
The Pack would conclude its meet on beam, but had to count one fall and scored a 48.050. Hancock was once again the Pack’s top finisher, as she had a 9.85 for third place. Zolton brought home a 9.725, and Jones finished with a 9.675.
Zolton won the all-around with her score of 38.800.
The Wolfpack will now have back-to-back home meets. NC State will return to Reynolds Coliseum hosting Arizona, James Madison and William & Mary this Friday night for a 7:00 p.m. meet.
