Doughtie Fourth; Women's Golf Team 10th at LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. – Sophomore Lauren Doughtie is tied for fourth overall and the NC State women’s golf team is in 10th place among 21 teams after two rounds at the highly competitive 2007 LSU/Cleveland Classic at the par 72, 6,424-yard layout at The University Club.
Doughtie fired her second straight even-par round of 72 to move up two spots to tie for fourth overall. The Suffolk, Va., native rebounded from two early bogies through five holes with birdies on the sixth, 10th and 11th holes to get to one-under on her round. She wound up giving a stroke back on the par-three 13th, but finished her day with five consecutive pars.
Wolfpack junior Stephanie Derrey and freshman Emily Street each shot rounds of four-over 76 on Saturday. Derrey birdied holes one and three and was at one-under through eight holes, but a bogey at No. 9 gave her a 36 on the front nine. She then bogeyed No. 10 and wound up with a 40 on the back nine and stands tied for 37th at +9 (77-76=153) through 36 holes.
Street struggled with a pair of double bogeys on the front nine, but a nice birdie at No. 9 got her back on track. She later birdied the par-five 17th to put her in a tie for 45th with a two-day score of +10 (78-76=154).
Freshmen Kathleen Strandberg and Cindel Gwyn are both tied for 70th at +15. Strandberg had a 78 on Saturday, rebounding from an opening round 81.
Gwyn also improved in round two, firing a five-over 77, five shots better than her first day score of 82
Duke’s Amanda Blumenhurst maintained her lead with a three-under 69, which comes off yesterday’s four-under 68 that puts her at –7 (137) for the tournament. Amanda Mathis of Mississippi State also fired a 69 today and is three shots back at –4 (140).
NC State, which began the day in ninth, actually shot seven shots better than round one with a team score of 301. The Wolfpack owns a two-day score of 609 (308-301).
As a team, Duke shot an even-par 288 on Saturday and owns a three-stroke advantage over Auburn entering Sunday’s final round of the 54-hole tournament.
