Women's Golf Team Finishes 11th at LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. – Sophomore Lauren Doughtie posted her second top-10 finish of the year and the NC State women’s golf team finished 11th among 21 teams at the highly competitive 2007 LSU/Cleveland Classic at the par 72, 6,424-yard layout at The University Club.
The Wolfpack began the day in 10th place but fell one spot with a round of 306 today. NC State finished the tournament at +51 (308-301-306=915).
After back-to-back rounds of even-par 72, Doughtie fired a three-over 75 on Sunday to finish tied for eighth at +3 (72-72-75=219). The Suffolk, Va., native was steady on the day with two birdies and 12 pars on her round.
Junior Stephanie Derrey shot a five-over 77 during final round action to finish at +14 (77-76-77=230). She had two birdies in her round, but a pair of double bogeys set her round back on Sunday.
Freshman Emily Street had a 79 today to place in a tie for 54th at +17 (78-76-79=233).
Freshman Kathleen Strandberg fired her best round of the tournament on Sunday with a three-over 75, improving 11 spots on the day, finishing tied for 59th at +18 (81-78-75=234). The Greensboro, N.C., native had a really nice round going with four birdies and was one-over-par heading to her final hole of the day, the par-4 10th, but a double bogey set her back to a round of 75.
Classmate Cindel Gwyn shot an 81 today to finish at +24 (82-77-81=240).
Duke’s Amanda Blumenhurst led wire-to-wire to finish the tournament at –9 (68-69-70=207), eight strokes better than Auburn’s Nicole Hage, Mississippi State’s Amanda Mathis and Tennessee’s Marci Turner.
As a team, Duke fired a two-under-par 286 to win going away by six shots over Vanderbilt. Auburn was one shot behind the Commodores.
