Sisterhood with Lauren: Spring Break

Lauren is one of three seniors on this year's Wolfpack women's tennis team. Throughout the year, Allison, Lauren, and Agustina will be posting weekly blogs about what it is like to be a member of a Division I athletic team including personal insights on competition and experiences shared amongst the team. The blog's title, Sisterhood, has an important meaning to the team. Each player does not only consider themselves teammates but part of a sisterhood where they will learn to share four years of their lives with other student-athletes from all around the world who enjoy playing tennis and having the opportunity to be part of the Wolfpack.

 

Senior’s Flashback

It is a trip our team looks forward to every year Spring Break. But this trip was especially meaningful for Allison, Agustina and I. It would be our last spring break with the team. It would be the last spring break of our college careers and one that would mark the third last away trip of the main season.

On Tuesday March 6, the team boarded the plane for Tampa and headed to the destination only Head Coach Hans Olsen, Allison, Augustina, and I had been before the Bilmar Beach Resort in St. Petersburg, Florida. Stretching 550 feet, the sugar white sand beach ran alongside the blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico. We stayed there for three days going to the beach, playing volleyball, swimming, and enjoying the numerous outdoor bands playing at nearby restaurants. It was an atmosphere which I enjoyed being in because I was sitting outside and listening to the sounds of life that surrounded me. It took me back to a time when I was a freshman again. Reminiscing about the steps the three of us have taken from the years 18 to 22, it is amazing to see how we have grown.

This spring break, we found a few moments to steal where just Allison, Agustina, and I would go out to the beach at night or take a walk during the day.  It turned out to be a time where we were beginning to get closure on a wonderful four years.  We started this experience together and we are finishing it together!

Spring Break Matches

Following Tampa, our next stop was Tallahassee.  In Tallahassee, we played against Florida State University and played well. The energy from the competing players reached every court and every member of the team. It seemed as every five minutes passed, nearly 15 Wolfpack cheers or screams were made. We would look into each other’s eyes and nod in affirmation that we could do this. No regrets. No holding back.

We did just that on Friday and again on Sunday as we traveled to Miami. Unfortunately, we fell to both teams. Yet, both of them will remember the Pack. We went to compete, we did so successfully and for me I felt we were victorious.
