Women's Track and Field Concludes Action at ACC Championships

Raleigh, N.C. – The NC State track and field squads concluded action at the 2007 Indoor ACC Championships at Clemson, S.C., with the women’s squad finishing 11th overall. Jemissa Hess earned All-ACC honors in the mile, as she place third in a time of 5:07.23.
Joya Rodgers also scored points in the 60 meters today, as she was sixth in 7.57. Kristina Roth was the Pack’s top finisher in the 3,000 meters as she took 14th in 9:54.01.
In the jumps, Kayla Lawson and Mattie Bethea each tied for eighth in the high jump as they both cleared 5’04.25”. DeMiracle Washington was 10th in the triple jump, with a top leap of 38’11.50”.
Bethea also placed 10th in the pentathlon, accumulating 3,539 points.
Led by ACC Champion Mitchell Pope in the shot put, the NC State men’s track and field team finished in third place at this weekends Indoor ACC Championships. Pope earned the schools first championship in the shot put since 1988, as NC State finished only behind Florida State (128 pts) and Clemson (106.5) for the highest finish since 2004.
Mitchell Pope brought home top honors in the shot put, as his toss of 63’04.25” earned him an ACC Championship. Pope’s win in the shot put was the first for a Wolfpack athlete at the ACC Championships since 1988. Also in that event, Chris Crawford was seventh (53’06.50”).
All four Wolfpack runners that advanced from yesterday prelims scored points in their respective events. Omar Wells ran finished in sixth place in the 200 meters, with a time of 21.71, and Kevin Hutton was also sixth in the 400 meters running a 49.06. Stephen Furst took seventh in the mile with his time of 4:13.18. Also placing seventh, was A’Tolani Akinkuotu in the 60 meters with a NCAA provisional time of 6.72.
In the men’s 3,000 meters, John Martinez had the Pack’s top showing as he was fifth with a time of 8:20.70. John Crews recorded his second top-10 finish of the weekend, as he was ninth in 8:27.56. Also in that race, Stephen Furst was 12th (8:30.32) and Tibor Vegh was 13th (8:32.08).
In the triple jump, Michael Hill brought home a fifth place finish with a top mark of 47’11.50”, and Dexter Adams was close behind in seventh (47’05”).
The men’s 4x400 meter relay squad was sixth in 3:19.24.
