RALEIGH, N.C. – The No. 21 NC State gymnastics team will head to Nebraska this weekend, for the Masters Classic hosted by the Cornhuskers on Sunday afternoon. The Wolfpack who jumped into the national rankings this week, will be facing its toughest competition this season, as NC State will face No. 3 Stanford, No. 8 Nebraska, and No. 9 LSU all in the same meet. Assistant Coach Todd Henry took time to write about what he thinks of the upcoming meet.
Henry: NC State has moved back into the top-25 with a No. 21 national ranking. Each event is ranked as well, with uneven bars being our standout event with a ranking of 19th. Working through the most difficult schedule in the country has proven to be a benefit with NC State Gymnastics. Each and every week, our young ladies and our staff have to push themselves and rise to the occasion. This weekend is no exception, as we will travel to Nebraska and compete against the #8 Huskers, #3 Stanford, and #9 LSU Tigers.
I want to thank all of our fans for supporting gymnastics. Attendance has grown each home meet. Our last meet against Nebraska pulled in 3,200 Wolpack faithful. Coach Mark Stevenson is hoping to reach the 4,000 mark at some point this season.
I often reflect on what my coach Peter Kormann (1996/2000 Olympic Coach) told me while I was at Ohio State. He would say "don't fall". That sounds so simple but very true. Lots of coaches want to make it more complicated that it really is. Sometimes stating the obvious is the best course of action. Our goal is to be in the top-18 this year.
Until next time................Coach Todd
