Darrion Caldwell Named ACC Wrestler of the Week

RALEIGH, N.C. — Freshman 141-pounder Darrion Caldwell's big week was rewarded Monday when the Atlantic Coast Conference named him its conference Wrestler of the Week. A freshman from Rahway, N.J., Caldwell won all three of his bouts last week, scoring extra team points in all three, as the Wolfpack extended its winning streak to four matches with wins over North Carolina, Virginia and George Mason.

Caldwell, who improved to 14-3 on the season and is ranked 20th by the NCWA, began the week with an 18-7 major decision over North Carolina's Mike Rappo. Two days later, he pinned Virginia's Kellon Balum at the 4:17 mark. Caldwell capped off his week with another pin, this one in just 26 seconds against Mostafa Ibrahim of George Mason. The pin of Ibrahim was Caldwell's second pin of less than 30 seconds this season. He has seven pins for the season, which ties for the most by an NC State freshman in more than 20 years.
