Gymnastics Captures Second Place at North Carolina

Raleigh, N.C. – The NC State gymnastics team came away with a second place finish with a team score of 193.975 at North Carolina on Sunday afternoon. Senior Amanda Jones brought home a first place finish on the bars, while senior Rachel Katz and junior Leigha Hancock each earned two second place finishes. The host Tar Heels won the meet with a 194.525, fellow EAGL foe George Washington was third (190.975), James Madison was fourth (183.150), and Wisconsin-Ashkosh was fifth (182.325).
The Pack’s top event team score of the day was on vault with a 48.825, and five scores in the top-10. Hancock and senior Rachel Katz each landed a 9.8 and tied for second place. Junior Kelsey Lee had a 9.775 and was sixth, while senior Katie Ozburn was eighth with her 9.75. Rounding out the scoring was junior Heather Zolton in 10th place with a 9.7.
Over on bars, NC State recorded a team score of 48.575. For the second straight week, Jones came away with the bars title. Jones scored a 9.825 today. Katz recorded another second place finish, with her 9.75. Zolton and freshman Lauren Deuser tied for sixth place each with a 9.7.
NC State had its lowest team score of the day on beam, with a 48.150. Hancock was the Pack’s top performer, as her score of 9.825 was good for second place. Zolton scored a 9.675 for sixth place, while Ozburn was eighth with a 9.65.
On floor, the Pack came away with a team score of 48.425. Three Wolfpack gymnasts tied with NC State’s highest score. Hancock, Katz, and sophomore Ashley Shepard all scored a 9.725 and tied for fourth place.
In the all-around, Zolton was second with her 38.525.
NC State will return to home action next weekend, hosting the Hearts Invite on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at Reynolds Coliseum.
