Track & Field Wraps Up Competition at Liberty Kickoff

The NC State track and field team wrapped up play at the Liberty Kickoff in Lynchburg, Va. to open the track and field season.
Lauren Montgomery and Cassandra Williams both competed in the finals of the 60 meter dash, turning in sub-eight second times in the process. Montgomery ran a 7.96, making her the 10th fastest performer in school history while finishing 12th. Cassandra Williams was a hundreth-of-a-second faster in the finals, finishing 11th with a 7.95. Williams owns a career-best time in the 60 meters of 7.84, the eighth-best in Wolfpack history.
Williams also turned in a ninth place finish in the 200 meter dash with a 26.57 at the meet to pace the Wolfpack sprinters. Montgomery was 15th with a time of 27.15.
Montgomery paced the Pack in the 400 meter dash, finishing sixth with a 1:00.03.
In the high jump, NC State finished 2-3 as Kayla Lawson posted the fourth-best mark in school history with a jump of five feet, seven inches. Alesha Patterson just missed a top-10 school mark as she finished third in the meet with a five foot, five inch mark.
In the long jump, DeMiracle Washington finished 12th with a 16'07.25" and Dekalah Price turned in a mark of 16'06.00 to finish 14th.
Price led the Pack in the triple jump with a 13th place finish with a mark of 35'07.25". Ashley Neal was 17th in the same event with a 34'04.75.
The women next compete at Chapel Hill on Jan. 12, 2008 to kick off the bulk of the indoor track and field season.
