Marc Turnesa Earns 2008 PGA Tour Card

Raleigh, N.C. - Marc Turnesa was one of a record 25 players who secured a 2008 PGA TOUR card on Sunday at the season-ending Nationwide Tour Championship at Barona Creek.
Turnesa, a 28-year-old native of Greenwich, CT, has been in a season-long quest to finish among THE 25 leading money winners on the Nationwide Tour. His efforts paid off on Sunday, as he finished the season No. 16 on the final money list with $237,890.
“This season has been a rollercoaster ride for me,” said Turnesa, a former golf standout at North Carolina State University and resident of Jupiter, Fla. “Luckily I ended the season with the win in Miami. I can’t tell you how much this means to me. Playing on the PGA TOUR is what I have worked my whole life for. The Nationwide Tour has afforded me the opportunity of achieving that goal. Now, I’ll move on to another goal of mine, which is to win on the PGA TOUR.”
Turnesa’s season included 16 made cuts in 30 starts and nine top 25 finishes. His year was highlighted by the win at the Miccosukee Championship the last full-field event of the season.
The Nationwide Tour’s 32-tournament season came to a pressure packed conclusion on Sunday with Richard Johnson winning the $775,000 Nationwide Tour Championship at Barona Creek by one stroke over Michael Letzig. Turnesa finished in a tie for 52nd place.
“Congratulations to each and every one of this year’s record class of 25 players who in January will be teeing off on the PGA TOUR,” said Nationwide Tour President Bill Calfee. “This class adds to the Nationwide Tour’s strong tradition of transitioning players to the PGA TOUR and having a significant impact once they get there. We wish them well and thank them for providing so many exciting moments on Tour this year.”
Turnesa’s 2007 Highlights: Made quite an impression in his first season on the Nationwide Tour. His first victory, which came just two tournaments ago at the Miccosukee Championship, catapulted him from 43rd to 13th on the Nationwide Tour money list. First top-10 finish of his career came at the season-opening Movistar Panama Championship, finishing T5, three shots behind Miguel Carballo. Moved into the 54-hole lead by one shot over Patrick Sheehan, but a disappointing 3-over 73 in the final round dropped him in the standings.
