Men's Soccer Season Ends at ACC Tournament

Cary, N.C. The NC State men’s soccer season came to a close Tuesday afternoon, as the Wolfpack fell to Virginia, 4-1, I the first round of the ACC Tournament being held at SAS Soccer Stadium in Cary, N.C. The Cavaliers (11-6-2) used two goals in each half, including a pair of penalty kicks in each half, and the Wolfpack (6-9-3) could not overcome the loss of three starters in the lineup.
Virginia would score first, just over two minutes into the contest. Ross LaBauex took the ball down the right wing, and crossed a low pass into the NC State penalty box. Jonathan Villanueva ran onto the ball and slotted it into the net at the 2:25 mark. Virginia would score once more in the ninth minute, when Chris Tierney converted a penalty kick.
Virginia would notch two more scores in a span of five minutes. Matt Mitchell scored off a breakaway from a keeper punt in the 61st minute, then Tierney converted his second penalty kick of the day in the 66th minute.
The Wolfpack would get on the scoreboard with just under 10 minutes remaining. After a UVA foul around the 50-yard line, Orry Powers sent a free kick in Virginia’s penalty box. The ball bounced off a UVA defender and into the goal, and the Pack was credited with the goal at the 80:40 mark.
NC State’s Christopher Widman made two saves on the day, while his counterpart Dan Louisignau made three saves for UVA.
