Men's Soccer Falls 2-0 in Home Finale

Raleigh, N.C. The NC State men’s soccer team fell 2-0 to No. 21 Duke on Saturday afternoon in the Pack’s final regular season contest of the year. The Blue Devils (11-6-1, 4-3-1 ACC) scored a goal in each half, and limited the Wolfpack (6-8-3, 1-6-1 ACC) to just three shots for the game.
The Blue Devils struck first in the 34th minute. Zach Pope made a nice flick off a long ball right to the foot of Mike Grella. Grella took one touch, and netted the eventual gamewinner at the 33:27 mark.
Duke would add an insurance goal early in the second half, as Cole Grossman collected a rebound in the box and scored to put the Blue Devils up 2-0 at the 47:35 mark.
Duke controlled the offensive flow for most of the contest, ending the game with a 15-3 advantage in shots. NC State’s Christopher Widman made eight saves for the Wolfpack, while Duke’s Brendan Fitzgerald has one in the shutout win.
NC State will now head to the ACC Tournament. The Pack will take on Virginia on Tuesday at SAS Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
