The NC State Women’s Golf team has enjoyed a fine start to its season and the results are beginning to be recognized nationally. The Wolfpack is ranked No. 21 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin performance index this week.
NC State is coming off a seventh place finish at the Lady Tar Heel Invitational last weekend. The Pack finished ahead of Oklahoma State, Texas, East Carolina, North Carolina and Florida State. Those five teams entered the weekend ranked in the top-30. In all, the event featured 12 programs ranked in the top-40.
Sophomore Emily Street has been a mark of consistency so far this year through two events, firing consecutive +3 (219) 54-hole totals, which included a tied for 10th place showing at the Lady Tar Heel. Individually, she is ranked No. 35 by Golfstat and third among all golfers in the ACC and No. 45 in the nation by Golfweek/Sagarin and fifth in the ACC.
Also ranked in the top-100 individuals is junior Lauren Doughtie at No. 71 by Golfstat and 76th by Golfweek/Sagarin and senior Stephanie Derrey at No. 90 by Golfweek/Sagarin and 97th by Golfstat.
Doughtie posted her third career top-10 finish at the season-opening Cougar Classic in September, while Derrey notched a top-20 finish at the Lady Tar Heel Invite.
The Wolfpack will now gear up for New Mexico State’s tournament, called the NMSU’s “Give Em Five” Intercollegiate, which begins on Monday, Oct. 15 and continues with 18 holes each day through Wednesday, Oct. 17 at the University Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M.
This tournament will give the women a chance to play in a different part of the country on different grass types and on a different style course that will prepare the club for postseason play.
