Men's Soccer Handles Gardner-Webb, 4-0

Raleigh, N.C. The NC State men’s soccer team shutout visiting Gardner-Webb 4-0, Wednesday afternoon at Method Road. The Wolfpack (6-6-3) used two goals apiece in each half, and limited the Bulldogs (3-14-1) to just two shots on goal for the game.
NC State struck first in the 24th minute of action. Sophomore Alan Sanchez and senior El Hadj Cisse worked a perfect give-and-go from about 25 yards out, which results in Sanchez’s second goal of the season at the 23:55 mark.
The Wolfpack would add another score before the half in the 44th minute. The second goal was much like the first, in a perfectly executed give-and-go this time inside the penalty box. Sophomore Ben Ward fed a pass to junior Clint Pires who returned the ball right back for Ward’s first collegiate goal at the 43:30 mark.
Cisse would get into the scoring column on his own in the second half, recording two scores. Cisse’s first was set up when freshman Adam Williams played a through ball that led to a breakaway from Sanchez. Before taking the shot, Sanchez slotted a pass over to a wide open Cisse who tucked the ball into the net at the 65:13 mark.
Cisse would score the game’s final score in the 74th minute. Pires recorded his second assist of the contest, as he fed the ball into the box for Cisse’s team-leading fifth goal of the season at the 73:03 mark.
NC State held a 17-6 advantage in shots for the game, with keeper Christopher Widman making two saves for his fourth shutout of the season.
The Wolfpack returns to ACC action this weekend, traveling to No. 5 Virginia Tech for a Saturday night contest.
