Men's Soccer Falls at No. 2 Wake Forest

Winston-Salem, N.C. The NC State men’s soccer team fell at No. 2 Wake Forest 4-0 Saturday night. The Demon Deacons (9-0-2, 3-0-1 ACC) scored two goals in each half, and the Wolfpack (4-5-3, 0-3-1 ACC) was forced to play a man down the final 40 minutes due to a red card.
Wake Forest would notch two goals in the first half of action, both by sophomore Zack Schilawski. Schilawski’s first strike would come in the 17th minute of action, as he bended a shot into the top right corner of the Pack net at the 16:34 mark. The Demon Deacons second score came off a one-two combo inside the 18-yard box, as Schilawski slotted home his second goal at the 22:23 mark.
Wake Forest held a 5-2 edge on shots in the first 45 minutes of action.
The Pack was put in another hole just five minutes into the second half, as starting central defender Stanley Mathurin received his second yellow card, and NC State was forced to play a man down the rest of the half.
Wake Forest would make it a 3-0 game in the 60th minute, as Cody Arnoux headed in a cross off an assist from Evan Brown. Will Clayton’s goal with over 11 minutes left gave the Deacons the 4-0 lead.
NC State keeper Christopher Widman recorded three saves on the day.
The Pack will return to home action next weekend, taking on ACC foe Clemson on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Method Road.
