RALEIGH, N.C. - After collecting a 4.0 GPA for the seventh consecutive semester, senior Melissa Rabe of the NC State volleyball team leads all Wolfpack student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 career GPA. Each and every semester at NC State, Rabe has received a flawless average, recording only A grades in all of her courses.
Academic coordinator Megan Albidrez points out that GPA's at NC State cannot exceed a 4.0 mark, despite the fact that A+ grades carry more weight.
"Melissa is the most driven and hard working student athlete that I have ever worked with," says Albidrez. "She will succeed at whatever she chooses to do."
Hailing from Greensboro, N.C., Rabe is a four-year letterwinner for the Pack volleyball squad, serving as a setter. In 2005 Rabe was named to the first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District squad.
In addition to being an NC State / Caterpillar Scholar Athlete on several occasions, Rabe was selected to the 2005-06 All-ACC academic volleyball team and has been named to the ACC Honor Roll numerous times.
"Wow, a 4.0 throughout college," said head coach Charita J. Stubbs. "That is truly impressive. This achievement is a testament to Melissa's work ethic and maturity. It is tough enough being a student-athlete in college, but for Melissa to obtain the success that she has collected in the classroom, that is just awesome.
"I am proud of Melissa and I know she will go on to do many more wonderful things in life," said Stubbs. "I am glad that I was able to have worked with her even though it was only for a short time."
Rabe will graduate from NC State at the conclusion of the spring '07 semester with a B.S. in biochemistry and nutrition minor.
