Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State gymnastics season got under way last weekend, as the Pack had a strong showing at Auburn. The excitement level goes up a notch for the Pack’s next meet, as NC State hosts two-time defending champion Georgia, No. 24 Ohio State and Iowa this Sunday afternoon. Senior Amanda Jones took time to write about these couple of weeks, and share what is going with the team this early in the year.
Jones: The season is finally here! We’ve all been anxiously waiting to show off the routines we’ve been training so hard on since August. Now is the time that all of our conditioning, hours in the gym, and mental preparation will pay off!
We kicked off the season last weekend at Auburn, with one of the highest opening team scores NC State has had in several years. In their very first collegiate competition, freshmen Lauren Deuser and Taylor Seamen proved they could be counted upon. Also, sophomore Ashley Shepard made a huge impact in the meet with her stunning performance on floor. We were all a bit nervous for our first meet of the year so we had a few wobbles and bobbles, but managed to walk away with only counting one fall out of the entire meet! It was a great start to a promising season for the Wolfpack!
We’ve been training hard this week in practices to prepare for our first home meet of the season this Sunday against Georgia, Ohio State, and Iowa. The team is eager to compete not only in front of a home crowd, but also against Georgia, the #1 ranked team in the country! Competing against a team of that caliber is a great opportunity for us to rise to the next level of performance. Our goal this weekend is to improve upon last meet’s routines, and get one step closer to a successful season.
Competing is the highlight of our year and we’re “In It to Win It”! Come to Reynolds Coliseum this Sunday at 1:00 to watch our opening home meet of the year and add to the energy of the Wolfpack!
