Here is a super-secret tip that might get you into Carter-Finley Stadium a little quicker Saturday for the Wolfpack's noon game agaisnt Akron: Use the new entrance that leads into the Red Zone.
Last weekend, for the season-opener agaisnt Appalachian State, few people used the new gate, which enters the stadium under the scoreboard from the Dail Plaza. Meanwhile, there was a line at the old entrance that leads to the westside grandstands that stretched dozens deep.
The new entrance will take you directly into the stadium without going up or down any hills, and should be the most convenient option for fans going into the stadium directly from Fan Zone.
And, as an additional reminder, Fan Zone will be the spot this weekend for the Walk of Champions, which will begin around 9:30 a.m. at the Dail Plaza between Carter-Finley and the RBC Center.
Also in the Fan Zone this weekend, you can stop by for the "Bobby Murray Tailgate Show," featuring Patrick Kinas, Neil Solondz, Don Shea and me. It begins at 10 a.m. adjacent to the RBC Center. We will have as our guest this week former NC State football player Dwayne Green, who promises to talk Wolfpack football and only tell a few stories about his old friend, new NC State men's basketball coach Sidney Lowe.

I’m looking forward to going over to Quail Ridge Books tonight to see an old friend of NC State. Former Wolfpack football coach Lou Holtz will be speaking at 7 p.m. and autographing his newly released “Wins, Losses, and Lessons: An Autobiography.”
It’s been almost eight years since Holtz has been to Raleigh in an official capacity. The last time was in September, 1999, when he made his debut as South Carolina’s new coach. Playing in a driving rainstorm caused by an incoming hurricane, the Holtz and his team were shutout 10-0 by Mike O’Cain’s Wolfpack.
Holtz admits in the autobiography that leaving NC State for the New York Jets in 1977 was a mistake. He still doesn’t know why he was fired at Arkansas after seven straight bowl appearances and two top 10 finishes – unless of course it had something to do with the political endorsement commercial he made for North Carolina Republican Jesse Helms.
He’s sure to talk about all those things and more. Maybe he’ll even do a magic trick or two.
You can find more For more information about his appearance and his book here at the Quail Ridge website. The News & Observer’s Ned Barnett also wrote about Holtz’s appearance in today's N&O.

DON’T FORGET that the Walk of Champions prior to this weekend’s game against Akron has been moved from the Murphy Center at the south end of Carter-Finley Stadium to the Dail Plaza over by Fan Zone at the north end of the stadium.
This is a one-game experiment, as football coach Chuck Amato wants to see what kind of crowd response there is to having it in the new location, where many fans congregate before home games.
The walk begins at 9:30 a.m. for the noon contest.

THE UNIQUE LIVE webcast of Saturday’s season-opening 23-10 victory over Appalachian State that was provided for subscribers to Pack Pass, the premium service of www.gopack.com, drew more than 1,000 viewers, according to the numbers provided by XOS Technologies.
In an ACC-approved one-time experiment, we combined the scoreboard video feed and Wolfpack Sports Network radio broadcast to provide full coverage of the untelevised game. An archive of the game is available on Pack Pass.
Archives of other home games will also be available on one-day tape delay.
