The NC State women’s soccer team (6-2-2, 1-1 ACC) travels to Durham, N.C. on Sunday, Oct. 1 to take on the Duke Blue Devils (6-4-1, 2-1 ACC) at 2 p.m. The last time the two teams met, Duke defeated the Wolfpack, 1-0, helping Duke grab hold of the series lead with a record of 11-10-1 against the Pack. The red and white has not defeated the Blue Devils since 2000, when they won the match against the then No. 11 team, 3-1, in Durham.
The Wolfpack enter the contest after taking on two ACC opponents at home last weekend. NC State defeated Miami, 1-0, on Thursday for the third time in a row with help from junior Jessica O'Rourke who scored her seventh goal of the season. O’Rourke is now third in the ACC for goals scored, and is tied for second for points with 17. Senior goalie Megan Connors netted her 15th career shutout against the Hurricanes, sixth this season, making her tied for second in the ACC for shutouts per game. The Pack also fell to then No. 1 Florida State, 2-0, this weekend. With a combined nine saves in the two games, Connors now has 40 saves for the season, and 160 for her career.
Duke hosts the Pack after defeating No. 25/26 Boston College at the last minute for the team’s second ACC win of the season. KayAnne Gummersall netted the goal for the Blue Devils, her fifth goal of the season. She currently leads the team in scoring. Sarah McCabe is not far behind with four goals for the season. Five other players have scored the teams other nine goals. Duke has eight players who have received assists, with four having more than one. Goalie Allison Lipsher is fifth in ACC for saves with 34, and has 4 shutouts this season.
