Durham, N.C. - Down a goal in the second half, the NC State men’s soccer team scored two goals in a 15 minute span to pull out a 3-2 victory over American at the Duke/adidas Classic Sunday evening. The Wolfpack (2-2) used a goal from junior El Hadj Cisse and two second-half scores from freshman Alan Sanchez for the win. NC State splits its games this weekend, as the Pack prepares to enter the ACC season with a trip to North Carolina this Wednesday night.
The Pack notched the first goal of the contest in the 18th minute. Freshman Jorge Mora lofted a corner kick to the near post, where Cisse headed in the goal for his first of the season. American would notch its own score of the half, when Jake Van Yahres found Lucas Dowiak in the box in the 34th minute. The score would be tied 1-1 at the half, with NC State holding a 9-3 advantage in shots in the first 45 minutes.
American would take the lead in the second half, when Larry Mark crossed the ball to Tomer Konowiecki for the goal in the 51st minute.
The Pack would respond however, scoring the final two goals of the contest for the victory. Junior Hugh Cronin lined up a free kick just inside the 50-yard line, and sent the ball into the American penalty box. Sanchez trapped the ball down and fired a shot into the right corner of the net for his first career goal in the 61st minute. Sanchez would add the game-winner in the 76th minute, as classmate Mora crossed the ball to the far post and senior Rami Ghanayem chested the ball back to Sanchez for his second score of the game.
