Women's Soccer Begins ACC Play

The NC State women’s soccer team (5-1-2) will begin ACC play with a match against Miami on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 4 p.m. at Method Road Soccer Stadium. The Wolfpack is 2-0 against the Hurricanes after winning last season’s match, 1-0, in double overtime.
The Pack is hosting the Hurricanes after suffering its first defeat of the season against Virginia Commonwealth this past weekend in the William & Mary Tournament. NC State also took on its first ranked opponent of the season, No. 18 William & Mary, in the tournament. The match ended in a tie, 1-1, with the Pack’s goal being scored by freshman Briana Cunningham. Junior Jessica O'Rourke leads the red and white with six goals so far this season, including the lone goal in the match against VCU. O’Rourke is also ranked second in the ACC and 29th nationally for points with 15. Senior goalkeeper Megan Connors is ranked fourth in the ACC for saves with 31 this season, averaging 3.88 per game.
The Hurricanes (6-1) come to Raleigh after shutting out South Florida, 1-0, last Friday. Goalkeeper Lauren McAdam has had four shutouts this season, making her second in the ACC, and is second in saves with 33. Miami’s one loss came against Florida Atlantic, 2-1, in double overtime. The Canes are lead by Paulelette Ricks-Chambers who has three goals and six points this season. Kristen Chapman netted her first goal of the season in the match against USF. This is also Miami’s first ACC match of the 2006 season.
