Cary, N.C. – The NC State men’s soccer team dropped a hard fought 3-2 decision to #11 South Carolina Wednesday night at SAS Soccer Park. The Wolfpack (3-5) used goals from freshmen Daniel Fish and Alan Sanchez in the second half, but the Gamecocks (7-1) notched the gamewinner with under five minutes to play.
South Carolina would score the lone goal of the first half in the 40th minute of action. Mike Sambursky took the ball to the endline, then slotted the pass back into the NC State penalty box to Jeff Scannella for his second goal of the season at the 39:48 mark.
The Pack would even things up in the 57th minute of action, as freshman Daniel Fish headed in a Jorge Mora corner kick for his first score of his career at the 56:25 mark.
South Carolina would retake the lead on a similar goal, when Ryan Leeton headed in a corner from Scannella at the 76:52 mark.
NC State would once again tie the score up, as freshman Alan Sanchez notched his team-leading four goal of the season. Sanchez blasted home the shot from about 30 yards out in the 83rd minute.
Just as the game appeared to be heading to overtime, USC would score the final goal in the 86th minute. Mkan Hislop took the ball from about the 50 yard line and dribbled down the middle of the field before launching his shot from 30 yards out that found the back of the net at the 85:09 mark.
NC State outshot the Gamecocks by a count of 23-13, and keeper Tom DeStefano made five saves.
