RALEIGH, N.C. - Construction on the new home field for Wolfpack soccer began on Wednesday, Aug. 2, on the NC State campus. The former location of Derr Track will be the future home of the men’s and women’s soccer fields, as well as the Curtis & Jacqueline Dail Softball Stadium. Cranes and construction trucks filtered into Paul Derr Track to begin the initial steps of the highly anticipated project. The project is estimated to take 270 days to be completed.
The new soccer and track complex will be located on the heart of the NC State campus, off of Cates Avenue and Morrill Drive, allowing easier access to games for students, faculty and staff, and fans of the program. Stadium seating will surround the outer track area, while the actual soccer field will be centered within the newly installed track and will be surrounded by lights. Completing the project will be a concourse featuring a press box, restrooms and other amenities.
Men’s head soccer coach George Tarantini and women’s head soccer coach Laura Kerrigan are excited to see the progress and to enjoy the benefits of having an on-campus facility to call their own. While they will both miss the history of their current home, Method Road Soccer Stadium, both are looking forward to beginning a new chapter of Wolfpack soccer history in the near future.
“Method Road has been a great home for Wolfpack soccer for over 20 years,” said Tarantini. “However having a new on-campus facility with lights will allow greater flexibility with games and practices and will be more enjoyable for our fans and players.”
“We are so excited that the project is underway,” said Kerrigan. “We are looking forward to playing there in the heart of NC State’s campus under the lights. With a deep tradition of soccer here, we are looking ahead to displaying that on campus in the near future.”
