Wolfpack to Host Wyoming - Game moved to SAS Stadium
8/30/2006 12:00:00 AM | Women's Soccer
NC State women's soccer (2-0) hosts Wyoming (1-1) on Friday, Sept. 1. The game was originally scheduled to be played at 4 p.m. at Method Road, however, due to the rain fall from Hurricane Ernesto, the game has moved to 6 p.m., at SAS Soccer Field number two. Fans are encouraged to bring folding chairs to the stadium. The Wolfpack is coming off of two straight home wins to open the 2006 season. Four players have recorded goals for NC State this season in each of the two games.
After opening the year with two shutouts over Western Carolina and UNC Wilmington, the Wolfpack is back in action for two home matches this weekend. Wyoming, headed by former NC State women’s soccer player, Anne Moore (formerly Brennan), will meet the Wolfpack for the first time. In the opener against WCU, freshman Briana Cunnningham and sophomore Lindsay Vera each tallied a goal. Against UNCW, junior Jessica O’Rourke and sophomore Mallory Schmidt netted one. Senior Megan Connors has earned both shutouts while minding the net. The goalkeeper posted eight saves over two matches and now has 11 shutouts to her credit over her four seasons.
Wyoming’s Anne Moore enters her eighth season as the head soccer coach after leading the program to its best finish in each of the past three seasons. The Cowgirls finished with a record of 9-7-3 in 2005 and finished fourth in the Mountain West with a 4-3-0 record in 2005. Amanda Lathrop and Kelsey Lindner have each tallied goals for Wyoming. The squad began the year with a 3-1 loss to Tulsa, but shutout Montana 1-0 last Sunday to even the record at 1-1 for 2006.
