Andi's Anecdotes: Playing in Charlotte
8/29/2006 12:00:00 AM | Women's Volleyball
As you all know, we traveled to Charlotte, N.C. this past weekend for a tournament in which we played Davidson, East Tennessee and Charlotte and we went 0-3. Everyone's first thought was “What happened? I thought you guys were supposed to be good this year?” Yes we did poorly this weekend, and yes we still have a lot of work to do, but the year is young and you must have faith because I know that we can be a great team.
Our first game was tough and we didn’t show up to play like we know we should have. Despite the bad loss, we picked our heads up and played hard, but we didn’t come out on top. We saw a lot of new faces on the court and we had people who came off the bench and played extremely well.
For those of you who don’t know me, I am a huge fan of country music. I thought that I would make a reference to the Rascal Flatts song “Stand,” that I found relevant to this weekend.
"When push comes to shove, you taste what you're made of. You might bend 'til you break 'cause it's all you can take. On your knees, you look up, decide you've had enough. You get mad. You get strong, wipe your hands, shake it off. Then you stand."
When I heard this song, I thought it was relevant in that even though we weren’t mentally tough and we withstood some bad losses, we still have the strength to come back and fight our way to victory!
Luckily, we are given second chances in life. Our second chance comes this weekend, with our home tournament in Reynolds Coliseum at 7 pm. I hope you guys are as excited as I am about our first home games! I hope you all will come out and cheer us on! Have a wonderful week and get pumped up for this weekend!
