Mens Soccer Drops Contest

Raleigh, N.C. - Playing its second game in as many days, the NC State men’s soccer team fell to visiting Hartford 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Method Road. NC State finished the season-opening Wolfpack Invitational with a record of 1-1, after defeating St. Francis (N.Y.) on Saturday by a count of 1-0. The Hawks (1-1) used a goal in each half for their first win of the season.
Hartford first got on the scoreboard in the 17th minute. Gary Muir’s corner kick went in off a NC State defender for an own goal at the 16:25 mark.
The best chance for the Wolfpack came 17 minutes into the first half. Freshman Alan Sanchez started the play on the left sideline and worked his way into the middle of the field. He fired a shot from about 20 yards out, but his attempt rang off the post and out of trouble.
Hartford would add an insurance goal in the second half, as Daniel Antunez picked up an unassisted tally at the 63:25 mark.
The Wolfpack ended up the day with a 10-8 advantage on shots. Both keepers, including freshman Christopher Widman getting the nod in the Wolfpack net.
The Wolfpack will return to action next weekend by taking part in the Duke/adidas Classic in Durham, N.C. The Pack will face nationally ranked South Florida on Friday at 5:00 p.m., then play American on Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
