Raleigh, N.C. - Two members of the NC State men’s golf team have advanced past the qualifying stages, and will now participate in the U.S. Amateur Championships set for August 21-27 at the Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota. Rising junior Andrew Byrd (Henderson, N.C.) and incoming freshman Brad Revell (Ontario, Canada) each are set to compete, as they both advanced from their regional sites this past week. In addition to the two members from the Wolfpack that qualified, rising junior Chase Duncan (Lancaster, Pa.) is the first alternate from his site, after he missed out by just one stroke.
The U.S. Amateur, the oldest USGA championship, was first played in 1895 at Newport Golf Club in Rhode Island. The event, which has no age restriction, is open to those with a Handicap Index of 2.4 or lower. It is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
Byrd shot a 139 at the Old Chatham Golf Club in Durham, N.C., while Revell finished with a 140 at the Radisson Greens Golf Course in Syracuse, N.Y.
