Caterpillar is proud to partner with NC State to present a program that honors the achievements of our student-athletes in the classrooms as well as on the playing fields. Each month two Wolfpack Scholar athletes will be selected as a member of the Caterpillar Scholar Athlete team. To be named to the Caterpillar Scholar Athlete team, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.00 GPA for at least one semester and be a full-time student at NC State.
During the Spring 2006 semester 236 Wolfpack Student Athletes achieved a semester GPA of 3.00 or higher and 118 student-athletes were Dean's List honorees.
This month Caterpillar and NC State are proud to honor cross country's Elena Helmerick and Wesley Smith.

It's tough to keep up with Elena Helmerick. The rising senior from Sheridan, Wyoming, has excelled for the NC State Women's Cross Country team, both in competition and in the classroom. Elena has compiled a 3.73 Total Grade Point Average in her Animal Science major. And, since transferring from Wyoming, she's also made the NC State Dean's List all three semesters she's been on campus. Elena will also be named to the ACC Honor Roll for the 2005-2006 academic year later this summer.

Wesley Smith is a top performer for the NC State Men's Cross Country team, having earned All-ACC Honors. The senior from Hudson, Ohio, is also a standout in the classroom. Wesley has compiled a 3.37 Total Grade Point Average in his Economics major. His other accomplishments include being named to the NC State Dean's List three times plus making the ACC Honor Roll in both 2003-2004 and 2004-2005.
Congratulations to both Elena and Wesley and all the other Caterpillar Scholar Athletes.
Caterpillar and NC State ... partnering to make progress possible.
