Women's Golf Readies for 2006 NCAA East Regional

No. 37 NC State women's golf will travel to the Bryan Park Golf Course in Browns Summit, N.C. to compete in the 2006 NCAA East Regional, May 11-13. Atlantic Coast Conference member, Wake Forest, will serve as a host for the event. Head coach Page Marsh and her lineup of Lorraine Ballerano (Senior), Molly Birmingham (Senior), Nancy Mountcastle (Junior), Stephanie Derrey (Sophomore), Lauren Doughtie (Freshman) will compete for their first bid to the NCAA Championship set for May 23-26, in Columbus, Ohio.
This championship marks the fifth-straight for the Wolfpack since 2001-02. Sophomore Stephanie Derrey currently leads the team in stroke average with 76.4 per round. She has posted four top 20 finishes and one top 10 spot. Senior Lorraine Ballerano leads the team with her 27 total rounds this season with an average 76.6 strokes per 18 holes. Junior Nancy Mountcastle and senior Molly Birmingham are tied for third with a stroke average of 77.3 per round. Mountcastle led the Wolfpack in the ACC Tournament with a third place finish back on April 16, and has two top 20 finishes and one top 10 placing for the year. Birmingham has one top 20 finish and one top 10 rank. Freshman Lauren Doughtie is the fifth member of the Wolfpack arsenal. She is averaging 78.9 strokes per round.

Coach Marsh, now in her sixth season with the Wolfpack, has led the squad to each of its NCAA appearances the last five years and finished in the top 15 in four of the postseason regionals.
