It's been quite a year for NC State Athletics. Teams have competed well in their various sports. And, in the classroom where it really counts, NC State's student-athletes have again excelled. On Tuesday, April 5, NC State took a timeout to celebrate academics and athletics at the Caterpillar Scholar Athlete Banquet. The Brownstone Hotel in Raleigh, North Carolina, served as host.
The event honors student-athletes who compile a 3.00 or better grade point average during a semester at NC State. Some 234 were recognized for their accomplishments in the spring semester of 2005. That included 122 student-athletes who made the NC State Dean's List. Some 216 student-athletes were saluted for their work during the fall semester of 2005. Of those, 128 were also named to the NC State Dean's List.
"We are all very proud of our student-athletes," said Phil Moses, Director of NC State's Academic Program for Student Athletes. He later addressed the student-athletes directly by saying, "Scholar-athletes, thank you for all you do every day. Your leadership, integrity and commitment to excellence will leave a very positive stamp on NC State University."
The highlight of the night was the announcement of the top scholar athletes. Usually it's a Top Ten List. But with apologies to David Letterman, this year it was expanded to The Top Eleven, since that many scholar-athletes had compiled a perfect 4.00 total grade point average.
