Stephen Lewton, a senior on the NC State men's golf team, has been selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) to play in the 2006 Palmer Cup presented by Monster. Leading the Wolfpack this season with an stroke average of under par, Lewton will play for the European team against their counterparts from the United States in college golf's Ryder Cup-style competition June 29-30 at the par 71 Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland.
A native of Milton Keyes, England, Lewton won the Seminole Intercollegiate in March and the Southeast Amateur last summer at Stoke Park in England. This marks the second Palmer Cup selection for NC State and Hall of Fame head coach Richard Sykes in the 10-year history of the Palmer Cup. Former Wolfpack golfer Justin Walters was picked to the European squad in 2002.
