NC State volleyball coach Charita J. Stubbs announced today the signing of Janay Yancey to a national letter of intent to attend NC State University next fall and play volleyball for the Wolfpack beginning in 2006. The 5-11 middle blocker/outside hitter from Columbia, Tenn., earned all-region as well as all-district honors as a senior at Spring Hill High School.
"We are extremely pleased with landing a player of Janay's caliber so late in the recruiting process," said Stubbs. "She is a great athlete who will come in and add to the growth of our developing program. She comes from a great family and we are thankful that they felt the immediate comfort with our coaching staff to become a member of the Wolfpack."
Leading her high school team to 30 wins and advancing to regionals, Yancey is also a member of the Lightning Volleyball Club, which was ranked as high as third in its district this season. A four-year letterwinner in volleyball at Spring Hill, Yancey also played basketball and ran track for the Raiders. Named to the honor roll, Yancey is a National High School Scholar and plans to major in biological sciences at NC State.
