NC State fell for just the third time this season when scoring first in a game, as the Charlotte 49ers won the second game of the doubleheader, 6-4. The Wolfpack (36-16) had a 4-0 lead after the top half of the first, but the 49ers (30-11) rallied to tie the game in the fifth before a two-out single plated the winning runs in the sixth. Abbie Sims hit a three-run home run and Jennifer Patterson had a RBI double for the Wolfpack.

NC State jumped out early, putting four runs on the board in the first. Jennifer Patterson hit a RBI double to the fence to drive in Heather Gelbard, who led off the game by reaching on an error. Sims followed with a three-run bomb to left for the 4-0 advantage.

The 49ers added a run in the first and third to trim the lead in half. Miller reached and Schmitz reached on an error to put runners on. Miller then stole third, and scored as the runner at first was tagged out in a rundown. Matthews hit a two-out RBI triple to add the second run on the board.

Charlotte whittled the lead to 4-3 in the fourth, loading the bases with no outs thanks in part to three infield singles. They scored a run on a fielder's choice, but NC State escaped without major damage.

Charlotte again got to Ervin in the fifth, rallying with two outs. Matthews doubled to left, and Forbes hit a flare into left to score Matthews to tie the score.

The 49ers took the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run, two-out bloop single into right off of reliever Megan Dalthorp (7-3).
