Gymnastics Picked to Compete at NCAA Regional Championships

Raleigh, N.C. - For the 14th time in the past 15 years, the NC State gymnastics team will compete at the NCAA Regional Championships. Next weekend, the Pack travels to Athens, Ga., to take part in the 2006 NCAA Southeast Regionals on Saturday, April 8, at 6:00 p.m. The Wolfpack, seeded sixth, will face the top team in the country, No. 1 Georgia, No. 12 and second-seeded Nebraska, as well as No. 13 and third-seeded Missouri. Other teams competing in Georgia will be EAGL conference foes, No. 4 seed West Virginia and No. 5 seed North Carolina.
NC State will be making its fourth trip to Athens for the NCAA Regionals. Its highest finish was third in 1993, and most recently finished sixth with a score of 193.575 in 2003.
The Wolfpack (23-8) is coming off of a successful trip to the EAGL Championships. The Pack placed second with a team score of 195.075, narrowly missing out on the title, but finishing in the top-three at the conference meet a league record eight times in 11 tries overall.
Sophomore Leigha Hancock became the first NC State gymnast to win the vault title at the EAGL Championships, with her personal-best 9.9. Freshman Elyse Adams and Amanda Jones each tied for second place on bars with scores of 9.85. Hancock was also successful on beam (2nd place - 9.875) and on floor (4th place - 9.85). In the all-around, both Kylah Bachman (39.125) and Heather Zolton (39.075) placed in the top-five.
