100 wins!
Although everyone is saying good job coach on getting 100 wins, I keep saying it is a testament to the players at NC State. I have said from day one, their determination and hard work is what has made this program successful.
I am very proud of the kids who started this program and continue to make it successful today and to the kids who have kept coming to NC State to help us win. A special thanks to my assistants of the past in Tanya and Pat, and now Michelle and Jay for the work they do behind the scenes.
Thanks to EJ for keeping the kids healthy and for Patrick for staying up with the stats and fluffy stories. Megan Taliaferro for taking care of their academic needs, Wright for keeping the kids strong and Jill for making sure we look good.
Here is my all time quote: You are only as successful as your assistants, your #2 pitcher and your freshman. Someone asked me why that quote and I said because you as a head coach will always be the same, your assistants need to be able to carry out the message you set and explain everything you say. Everyone has a #1 pitcher but what gets you there is #2 and your freshman have no idea what is going on, they just play.
I am very happy with what we have done at State to this point. I know we continue to get better. It is sometimes hard to believe we are already looking to replace the first big class. At least this team will always have a spot in history.
A reporter asked why do you coach, I just laugh and said actually, "To see the light go on in their head when they get it ... get the card from the kid that says thanks coach. ... and when you get that special collage of pictures to remind you of the fun times you have had."
Wins and losses are a part of the game, but the experience is what it is all about. Thanks kids.
