NC State (28-12, 4-2 ACC) lost the final game of a three-game series as the Virginia Tech Hokies (23-8, 4-2 ACC) took two of three games with a 2-1 win in nine innings on Sunday. Abbie Sims (14-7, 1-2 ACC) took the loss for NC State while allowing two runs on eight hits while fanning five batters and walking three. Angela Tincher (14-2, 4-0 ACC) allowed two hits and had 16 K's for the Hokies and gave up Jen Chamberlin's seventh home run of the season in the seventh to send the game into extra innings.

Both pitchers cruised through the first few innings, though Sims allowed an infield single to lead off the game. Erin Ota lined into a double play to third to erase the runner, and Kelly Brown popped up to end the inning.

Tincher tossed a no-hitter into the sixth inning, when Megan Dalthorp doubled into right center to lead off the inning. After Ashleigh Davis and pinch hitter Jennifer Patterson struck out, Heather Gelbard hit a pitch sharply up the middle that Tincher threw to first for the final out of the inning.

The Hokies lead off hitter in the seventh, Charisse Mariconda, doubled to left center and moved to third with two outs after a groundout to second. Callie Rhodes singled to short and beat the throw, allowing Mariconda to score the go-ahead run for a 1-0 Virginia Tech lead.

Down to its last two outs of the game in the seventh, Jen Chamberlin connected with her team-leading seventh home run of the season to tie the score at 1-1.

The Hokies would plate the winning run in the ninth as Mariconda hit a solo shot for the 2-1 margin.

The Wolfpack will return to action on Tuesday, Mar. 28 as it hosts Kent State in a doubleheader.
