Pope Wins Shot Put, Regionally Qualifies

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Mitchell Pope won the shot put at the 49er Invitational with a NCAA Regional Championship qualifying mark of 58-9.50 to lead NC State in its outdoor track & field season opener.
Pope and Chris Crawford finished 2-3 in the hammer throw, when Pope reached 166-9 and Crawford hit 164-0. Crawford reached a career best 51-11 for fourth place in the shot put and took eighth in the discus throw with a mark of 140-8.
Mattie Bethea and Laila Thomas both cleared 5-5 in the high jump to tie for third place and Bethea took fifth in the long jump with a career best mark of 18-5.25.
Reggie Reese finished fourth in the 100m with a time of 10.63 and ran a 10.54 in the preliminaries. The Wolfpack placed third in the men's 4x100m relay with a time of 41.66 and ninth in the women's 4x100m at 48.72.
