Shanna Smith went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and a stolen base and was one of nine Wolfpack batters with a hit as NC State moved into the Silver Bracket of the USF adidas Invitational. NC State (19-10) beat Temple (3-12) by a score of 7-0 as Shaina Ervin (4-2) and Megan Dalthorp combined for a four-hit shutout.

Ervin went five innings and allowed three hits while striking out one and walking a batter. Dalthorp closed out the final two innings by allowing one hit.

NC State took a 1-0 lead when Shanna Smith singled with one out in the first. She stole second, her 15th of the season, and came home when Jen Chamberlin reached on an error by the shortstop.

Temple put runners on second and third with one out after a double and a single in the first. Shaina Ervin struckout a batter for the second out then forced a groundout to third to end the threat.

The lead grew to 4-0 with three runs on three hits in the second. Megan Dalthorp led off with a single to left and Alycia LePage came in to run. Lisa Nentwig singled into shallow center to move LePage to second. Tess Corona doubled off the wall in center to drive in LePage, and Nentwig scored as the relay throw was offline from the shortstop and past the catcher for an error. Heather Gelbard's sacrifice fly plated Corona for a 4-0 lead.

Two more NC State runs came across in the fifth, as Gelbard singled to right field and moved to second on a fielding error. Blair Harkey ran for Gelbard and moved to third on a lineout to right from Smith. Chamberlin grounded to second and Harkey beat the throw home. Jennifer Patterson doubled to left-centerfield to plate Chamberlin for a 6-0 lead.

The Wolfpack added the seventh run in the seventh, as Smith and Chamberlin hit back-to-back doubles for the final 7-0 score.
