Wolfpack Softball Falls to Fordham Rams, 3-1

Fordham (3-3) scored three runs in the second inning to rally past NC State after an early Wolfpack run for a 3-1 win. The Rams went undefeated at the Gamecock Invitational to win the event, and NC State (9-6) posted a 1-2 mark for the weekend. Megan Dalthorp (2-2) took the loss, lasting two innings and giving up three runs on four hits and a walk. Shaina Ervin pitched four innings of shutout ball in relief, striking out six and allowing two hits and no walks.
NC State scored the first run of the game in the opening frame on two hits. Shanna Smith singled hard up the middle and hit the pitcher in the chest with a line drive for an infield single. Smith stole second and moved to third on a flyout to left by Jennifer Patterson. Jen Chamberlin singled into right field to drive in the run for a 1-0 lead.
The Rams put a three spot on the board against Dalthorp in the second inning on four hits. Fordham hit three straight doubles as a steady win blew out to centerfield all afternoon. The Rams' centerfielder Krystle Henry singled in the third run after Trish Arno's two-run double.
Smith's stolen base was her team-leading sixth steal of the season and Chamberlin drove in her team-best 11th run.
