Foster Wins ACC Championship In 60m Hurdles

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Ebony Foster won the ACC Championship in the 60m hurdles, smashing not only the school record (third time since last Saturday), but shattering the seven-year-old ACC Championship Meet record as well, with a NCAA Championships automatic qualifying time of 8.07 in the final day of the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships, Feb. 23-25 at Virginia Tech's Rector Field House.
Foster just missed all-conference honors in the 200m, with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 23.88 for fourth place and breaking her own two-year-old school record. She also scored in the 60m dash with a sixth place finish after running a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 7.44 in the preliminaries Friday, the second-fastest time in school history.
Jemissa Hess picked up All-ACC honors in the 3,000m and the mile run, running a 9:34.93 in the 3K for third place and taking third in the mile with a time of 4:47.66, missing the NCAA provisional mark by less than a second. Joya Rodgers scored in the 60m dash, running a 7.48 for fifth place, missing the NCAA provisional mark by four hundredths of a second.
Angelina Blackmon just missed All-ACC honors in the 800m, finishing fourth with a time of 2:09.10. She ran a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 2:08.94 in the prelims Friday. Mattie Bethea, who finished sixth in the pentathlon on Friday to get the NC State women's team on the board, tied for eighth in the high jump with a mark of 5-4.25.
Tibor Vegh earned All-ACC honors in the men's 3,000m, taking second place with a time of 8:15.80. He also helped NC State to a fourth place showing in the distance medley relay on Friday. John Crews finished seventh in the 3K with a time of 8:24.21. Crews earned All-ACC honors in the 5,000m on Friday with a second place time of 14:23.00.
Mitchell Pope reached the medal stand in the shot put, hitting a career best and NCAA provisional qualifying 62-1.25 for third place, earning All-ACC honors. He hit a career best 58-3.25 in the weight throw on Friday for ninth place. Chris Crawford scored in the shot as well, hitting 52-8.25 for seventh place. He reached a career best 59-10.5 in the weight throw Friday for seventh place.
Chris Kollar and Gavin Coombs scored for the Wolfpack in the mile, as Kollar ran a 4:11.49 for fifth place and Coombs finished seventh in 4:14.24. Jamar Dawson hit 45-5.75 in the triple jump for eighth place. Steve Gardner, Kevin Hutton, Armand Quenum and Reggie Reese combined for a seventh place showing in the 4x400m relay, running a 3:16.91.
NC State finished in sixth place out of 12 teams on the women's side and the men finished seventh of 12. Miami won the women's championship and Florida State captured the men's. The Wolfpack returns to action next week when it splits up for a couple last chance meets at Virginia Tech and North Carolina, as it tries to shore up a few more invitations for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships March 9-11 in Fayetteville, Ark.
